Every motorist should pass a technical inspection together with his “swallow”. But there are a number of failures, including very minor at first glance, in which no car can pass this procedure. What kind of defects are we talking about? What of them is better to eliminate even before to appear on eyes of the inspector?
Running Gear Problems
You can’t get a diagnostic card if you have a problem with the chassis – suspension elements, brakes and steering. Emergency and hard braking should be almost the same on all axles. The relative difference for disc brakes cannot exceed 20% and 25% for drum brakes. There should also be no backlash when turning the steering wheel.
Problems with catalytic converter
Catalytic converter is not a cheap thing. Like many other components of a vehicle’s construction, it needs to be replaced. It is not uncommon to do this every 50-60 thousand kilometers. All this makes the replacement of the catalytic converter one of the most unloved procedures among motorists. However, with a faulty or cut catalytic converter, the driver will definitely not pass a vehicle inspection.
Absence of interior elements
All interior components must be in place and function properly. In other words, all seats, headrests, cargo fasteners, seat belts, caps, bulbs and more must be in place. No one will pick on outright trivialities, but all important elements must be in their places.
Any unregistered tuning will be an excuse to refuse a motorist to pass technical inspection. Any modification should be examined in a special lab of the traffic police. Cool spoilers, non-standard wheels, specific tires, bumpers, optics, and much more must be approved by the state bodies.
Passing technical inspection is like a wedding! Happens more than once in a lifetime, but it is necessary to come to the event in the best conditions. First of all it concerns “footwear”. A car with too worn, old tires will never pass inspection. When the depth of the tire pattern is less than 1.6 mm for summer tyres and less than 4 mm for winter tyres, the tire is considered “worn”.
Any glass defect is a reason for serious and extremely costly repairs. And it’s also a reason to get a turnaround from the inspector when passing the technical inspection. In other words, you may not even try. The inspector most likely will not allow the car with a broken windshield in windshield wipers area. You will definitely not be given a diagnostic card, if the size of crack exceeds 10cm.
It is extremely difficult to get a diagnostic card with non-functioning headlights. It doesn’t matter if the head optics are physically damaged or if the settings are just wrong. Cracked lack of factory headlight mount frames is a reason for refusing to issue a diagnostic card. Fog lights may be cracked by the law, but they must necessarily work.
