The 71,704 Euro Porsche 718 Boxster S is due for a fuel consumption check.
Even the entry-level Porsche offers the full brand aroma. From the classic round instruments with a central rev counter to the ignition key on the left and the quasi-perfect position on the gripping sports seats, everything is style-defining on board. In addition, there are many nice, useful and expensive extras that drive the basic price up to over 100,000 euros. And what about fuel and maintenance costs?
Our test consumption
Porsche specifies a standard WLTP consumption of 8.8 liters of Super Plus for the 718 Boxster S. It departs from this value in everyday life; we have calculated an average consumption of 10.1 liters, which results in fuel costs of 12.12 euros per 100 kilometers. On the Eco lap, the Porsche consumed 7.2 liters, while on the commuter route it consumed 10.1 liters. If the 718 was driven in a sporty manner, consumption rose to 12.9 liters. The fuel costs are calculated on the basis of the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (24.09.2020 / Super Plus: 1.30 Euro/liter).
The test consumption consists of 70% of the commuter round and 15% each of Eco and Sport.
Monthly maintenance costs
Anyone who drives as resource-sparingly as we do on our Eco-Lap will reduce fuel costs for 100 kilometers to 8.64 euros. The rather violent pace results in a total of 15.48 euros. The vehicle tax for the Porsche costs 276 euros per year, the liability insurance amounts to 402 euros. Partial and full insurance cover comes with an additional 214 and 737 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 409 euros are paid by those who drive the Porsche 15,000 kilometers per year. If the mileage is doubled, the total rises to 747 euros. The loss in value is not included in this calculation.
The Porsche 718 Boxster S costs at least 71,704 Euro.
How to test
The auto motor und sport test consumption is made up of three differently weighted consumption runs. The so-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which measures 21 kilometers on average. A particularly economical, approximately 275-kilometer-long eco-trip is included in the evaluation with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports drivers’ lap. The length is roughly the same as the Eco-Lap, but the route contains a larger proportion of freeways and therefore higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the “more fuel” portal on the day the article was created.
The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wearing part costs and vehicle taxes for an assumed annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. Basis of the calculation are the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for Haftpflicht and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). SF12 means a discount rate of 34 per cent for third party liability and 28 per cent for fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz.
The 71,704 Euro Porsche 718 Boxster S with 350 HP and an average value of 10.1 liters of Super per 100 kilometers ends up in the auto motor und sport test consumption. Thus the fuel costs on this distance amount to 12.12 euro. The monthly maintenance costs are 409 Euro (15,000 km annual mileage) or 747 Euro (30,000 km annual mileage).
