The 5 main automotive novelties of the summer of 2022: The Chinese and not only

The previous year was marked by the raging coronavirus pandemic, which had a negative impact on car sales, causing disruptions in the supply chain of components, production problems and a drop in consumer interest in general.

The global industry will see many new models, from nimble city cars and practical compactvans to luxury limousines, top-of-the-line SUVs and lightning-fast sports cars. We will not witness the debut of many new products, but fortunately, even in these troubled times we are in for some pleasant surprises.

So, let’s take a look at the five debutants ready to please us in the coming summer months.

2022 Chery Tiggo 4

This compact SUV will be one of four new models that Chery will offer us this summer. It will share the platform and transmission with its relatives, taking a fuel-efficient 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 113 hp, and will be available with a variator, DST robotized transmission or manual control to choose from.

Buyers can choose from a range of versions, including the most powerful 147-horsepower Trek and Cosmo with DCT6, the 122-horsepower Techno and the cheapest 113-horsepower Base, Comfort, Luxury and Travel with MT5 or CVT7.

Already in the base package offers keyless entry and engine start, air conditioning, reversing parking sensors, airbags for the driver and front passenger, heated first-row seats, heated and electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, power windows, and other frills.

To these are added high quality thermal and acoustic insulation materials, pleasing to the eye trim with maximum practicality in daily use and well thought-out ergonomics to make travel easier.

2022 Chery Omoda 5

Designed with the stylish youth in mind, the futuristic SUV-coupe Omoda 5, formerly known as the Chery X-C, is also waiting its turn. The compact 4.4-meter front-wheel-drive crossover will come to us with a 1.6-liter 145-kilowatt turbo engine, familiar from other similar models (including Exeed TXL, Tiggo 7/8 Plus) and a 7-speed robotized transmission.

In the future, variants with 1.5-liter powertrain and CVT, hybrid and all-electric powertrain are possible, but at the start the crossover will be promoted with the most inexpensive and technically simple versions.

2022 Tiggo 8 Pro Max

For those who want more luxury and technology, Chery will offer its flagship Tiggo 8 Pro Max. All-wheel drive 7-seat beauty, powered by a two-liter 197-horsepower turbocharged engine and accelerating to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, is designed for families with an active lifestyle.

Luxurious interior, leather upholstery on heated seats, two integrated 12.3-inch screens with a wide range of information and multimedia functionality, more than a dozen security systems and intelligent switching between 2 and 4WD to improve flotation – only a small part of the rich equipment of the new gem Tiggo.

2022 Dongfeng DF6

The new DF6 is designed to meet the maximum number of requirements and expectations of the buyer. This representative pickup truck flexibly adapts to production or personal needs, whether in urban areas or in the open space.

The manufacturer describes it as “brutality and comfort in one vehicle” and promises that a vehicle with all-wheel-drive 4WD and rugged frame construction can be relied upon for any, even the toughest tests.

Equipment options are to suit all tastes, the 136 hp 2.5-liter turbocharged engine pulls the 5.3-meter two-ton Rich 6 (so it is called in the native land) powerfully and smoothly. The ground clearance of 220 millimeters and qualitatively tuned suspension smoothes the majority of irregularities encountered on the road.

The external noise is practically inaudible in a cozy 4-seater saloon, and the roomy body 1,5 meters deep is placed behind, able to accept half a ton of cargo. Towing possibility is missing, and gearbox is manual only (5-speed, manufactured by Tangshan Tongli).

2022 Aurus Komendant

The 5.38-meter long SUV weighing 3.2 tons will be powered by a power plant based on a 4.4-liter V8.

The 598-horsepower twin-turbocharged petrol engine, developed with the participation of Porsche Engineering, will be assisted by a nine-speed automatic transmission, supplemented by a three-phase synchronous electric generator and a lithium-ion battery, located in the rear section of the car.

High-class interior architecture of the premium crossover will borrow from the sedan Senat, and in all parameters – dynamics, ride quality, levels of comfort, safety and overall prestige, promises to be no worse than competitors from Bentley (Bentayga), Cadillac (Escalade), Mercedes-Maybach (GLS-class) and Rolls-Royce (Cullinan).

The first prototype appeared back in April 2019, and the full-fledged model was scheduled to debut the following year. But neither then, nor a year later, the hopes of marketers did not come true. If nothing prevents this time, the public will see the extremely luxurious Commandant on sale at the end of this summer.

Model price list, as well as lists of on-board equipment/additional options has not been declassified yet.
